When makeup recreation goes wrong...

Once upon ages ago, I took part in a makeup challenge with a friend. The idea was to recreate a look from a Mac Cosmetic Promotional Picture. This 'BoomBox' look particularly caught my attention. Not the dog meets sad panda, the arty farty red eyeliner one.

Tonight, I have given up trying to recreate it.

Where do I even begin? bwhahahahahahaahahaha.

Why does it look so pretty on her and absolutely atrocious on me? Well, apart from not having the skills to do it, I think I just don't have the eyelids for it. Or maybe this look is just meant to be shown on closed eyelids and not meant to be worn. I'd give my wage to see the girl with her eyes open to see what the eye makeup looks like…

Even my huge and beloved Ardell couldn't lift that look up.
They say practice makes perfect but there are times when it’s good to give up as you realise your idea was totally ludicrous.  This post is dedicated to everyone who, every now and then,
try to bite more than they can chew and make a fool of themselves with makeup :)

When was the last time you made a fool of yourself with makeup?

Always! I think that's what the beauty of it is though...learning and experimenting with it all. It's art-form--sometimes that watercolor isn't our style when we are used to oil-based frescoes. =]

I think you have done a really god job recreating the look! I do think it's easier to apply makeup to someone else, it must be pretty hard doing that look on your own eyelid. x

Haha, aw, I don't think it looks that bad! The girl in the pic has monolids, so it would be easier for her to get a fluid shape than those without. Eyes open, you could probably only see the flicks.

I love this post!!! You've really cheered me up - I've tried (and failed) to re-create looks almost ten times in the last month, I think I'm just generally crap at it!
I honestly think your re-creation is great - she has a make up artist to do hers remember!
Bravo Liloo!

I am constantly messing up make up looks that I've tried to re-create! Nice to know I'm not the only one lol!

Well done Liloo!

Haha I love this post, I think it looks pretty nice actually I might try this out next time I'm out although I might try with green as red would prob clash with my hair.

I make a mess of my makeup all the time, I forgot to do one eyebrow once and walked about all day in work looking like a total martian

As "beauty disasters" go, it's not horrible! You still did a really good job, I don't think it's awful! I'm crap at applying makeup on myself. Just utter crap. I can't do bronzer or false eyelashes properly and I can never recreate looks. Le sigh.

No, it's not terrible at all. Different lids, different applications. I remember when I started my blog in 08 this was one of the first looks I tried to create myself

I don't think it's bad at all! As it's been said, she's got monolids, so it's going to look different. And yours looks more sparkly!

Duuuuude, what did you use for the liner? :D it's so purrty

Agreed with the monolids comments, it would be easier having a flatter canvas to work with.
