Going crystal

If there is one thing which makes me cringe, grimace and grind my teeth is filing my nails. For me, filing my nails is as uncomfortable as  your teeth getting accidentally in contact with foil paper or hearing a piece of chalk squeaking on an old fashioned board. I hate it and when  my nails are too long, I've been known to get a small pair of scissors and cut the excess before resorting to a nail file. Using nail clippers  make me cringe even more. When someone uses one, I find it so unbearable, I want to leave the room.

After reading a review on a posh (read: more than £10) crystal nail file from Lipglossiping.com, I've been asking myself if opting for a  crystal file would make the whole filing process less unbearable. I was a bit hesitant about forking out £8 in this crystal nail from Tesco,  raging inside that I had never paid as much for a nail file in my entire life but I am so glad I've made the investment.

I still grimace,  especially when I miss the nail but the whole filing process is 100% easier, quicker and fuss free all around. I was so scared before: The  nail file looks so sharp, almost like a blade, I was scared that it would be too abrasive but it's perfect and it's just what I needed all  along. I am a bit cross with myself for not having made the plunge sooner.

The world needs to know about brilliant and revolutionary crystal nail files are. Go and invest in one, you won't regret it. Even Jacie, from You’ve Got Nail.com swears by them. I've seen a cute 'normal' glass nail file from Revlon whilst browsing Superdrug, which only cost £4.99. I might get it as a spare. It’s a miracle I’ve not lost my Tesco one!

Why do nail technicians still keep using traditional nail files?
Have you got a crystal or glass nail file yourself?

Yep, I got the Leighton Denny crystal one which was an eye-watering £15! Luckily I got it with my good old Boots points :) It does make a difference, I still loathe filing my nails but I can cope with this easily.

Glass files don't work with my nails at all; they make them split, and the noise from using one makes me want to cry...I was so close to tears when I borrowed my mums! x

I have been using a crystal nail file for years and would NEVER go back to using an emery board. Jude xx @jadlgw

I LOVE crystal files! I've been using them for a couple of months now and my nails have never looked better or been more healthy!

My auntie, who's a Nail Technician, said that the main reason they use traditional files is because gel nails/acrylics handle the abrasive edges better and the traditional files are much cheaper to find in bulk packages.

I forked out £11 on a Leighton Denny one from Boots (reluctantly I may say) and it was amazing.. I am not a lover of nail filing either really, but this made it more bearable!

I took it out to file nails a month or so ago (it came in a posh case where I kept it) and I got distracted and since then I haven't been able to find it..

So sad, and I can't justify buying another £11 file- what if I lose that too!

Might look at the Superdrug ones.. x

I hate filing my nails too but I really like my crystal file. I got mine in TKMaxx for £2.99, it's a random brand but it does the job well xx

I got the OPI one, way way to expensive if you ask me. Got it with tesco vouchers so that made it ok, would pay about £5 for one if I were to fork out actual money.

In my elementary school Tech class we made sandpaper boards for sanding wood that were much smoother than any emery board I've seen. The scare me with their coarseness O_o !

I've got the Leighton Denny one and it helped fix my nails! It's supposed to help seal the ends of your nails so they don't split as much and it definately worked. Plus it makes filing so quick and easy :)

I too hate filing my nails. I've been looking at these for a while now wondering if they would make it a bit more bearable. Thanks for writing this, you may have convinced me to buy one

I do not have a particularly posh one, but I've been using a glass nail file from Kiko for ages and I definitely am not going back to other kinds... I loke it quite a lot, and considering how clumsy I am, it must be made of strong stuff, as I haven't broken it yet! Don't know if I would bother with a more expensive one... mine costs €2.50, but it is serving me definitely well!!

I never file my nails myself, mostly because it's nails on a chalkboard for me too! Even reading your first paragraph made me shudder >___< I may have to try out a glass file though, just to see if I can stand it!

I love glass files - I didn't think that I would notice that much of a difference but my little one is amazing!
