Sleek Saturday – Sassy ... Smurfy Sunset

My, my, my! This week has been really challenging for me, probably the most challenging episode of my Sleek Saturday Series so far. Please, please, stay with me till the end of this post to see who else have joined in the Sleek Saturdays Series this week :)

This week, Helen and Ellie have challenged me to use my Sleek Makeup Palette. The Sunset Palette is a truly gorgeous palette but it contains mainly shimmery shadows apart from the black. As I don’t wear shimmery eyeshadow in the crease of my eye and beyond the crease, it was mission impossible straight from the start. Or was it?

001

I had 2 options: give up totally the challenge and use another Sleek makeup palette or cheat a little bit and add an eyeshadow from another Sleek palette. I have got pride and I hate giving up things, soooo I was left with no other option than to incorporate a little bit of brown. This series has taught me a lot and I’ll probably will want to get rid of this palette afterwards as it has proven too difficult for me to use.

Without further ado, my predictable look:

And now for the full face, obviously not happy with my look, for having cheated this week:

Do you feel this look is representative of the Sleek Sunset Palette?
Something is missing, don’t you think? Let’s add a bit of blue.

As I don’t really like blue on my lower lashline or waterline, how about blue … eyebrows?
Shall we go ahead with that and have a bit of fun?

Image11

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Nah, this is not working. This blue shadow is not ‘popping out’ as bright as I wanted to. Introducing my trusted Ben Nye face paint (will blog about this someday as I loooove it) since this week is a fail and I’ve cheated already :(

OK. I think this is QUITE blue enough! It was fun playing with my eyebrows. Sadly this palette is not doing it for me, as it predominantly shimmery.

Ladies and gentlemen, give a big hand to the sleekettes for this week.

I am so so so sorry to have run out of time for the faces-in-the-sleek-pans feature :/
I lost the files for the pictures I had already prepared and now I am running of time to post this on time. I’ll do better next week. My god, I am a disappointment this week!

Sleek Saturday Series – Bohemian Sunset, collaboration with Eyelining Obsessions

If you're new to 'Sleek Saturday', the purpose of this series is to make use of my collection of Sleek Palettes. Joining me today in this series, is Claire from Eyelining Obsessions and I really can't wait to see her look. Last week, when I was playing with Sleek Makeup Safari, I was faced with the challenge of dealing with a eyeshadow palette including mainly ultra shimmery/frosty shadows. How refreshing was it this week to play with 'BOHEMIAN’, the limited Edition iDivine palette!

Bohemian marks a breath of fresh air in the creation of sleek Palettes. It comes out in an original, innovative yet not very practical white casing. My I haven't used my palette very much at all but the white got very scruffy very quickly. I still like it very much because I am able to identify quickly.

It also marks a turning point in the design: the arrival of stylish arty sleeves, although I don't remember where I've put mine. Since Lipglossiping blogged about it and came out with names for all the shades of the palette, Sleek absolutely loved the idea and decided then to name the shades in all their palettes.

Bohemian has a refreshing mix of matte and shimmering shadows, which makes a massive difference for me. I am no longer limited to where I put my shadows and if I want to, I can put this lurid 'shamrock' green in my crease and it doesn't look too odd, because it's matte. I just don't have the eye lid to be able to carry off disco ball shimmer in the crease and beyond and this palette is a god send for me. I’ll have to show you one day, how horrible it is, when I attempt to put shimmer in my crease.

My favourite shades are the shimmery khaki, but most of all, the dark matte purple, which complements superbly my favourite purple in the universe, the purple from the acid palette. And then there is this purple grey shade which is my absolute favourite. It reminds me of Nails Inc London which my favourite nail polish and I know that this little baby is going to be one of the first shade I am going to hit the pan of. Oh I wish Sleek sold their shadows individually so that I could replenish this shade when it's over.

My look today uses 5 shades from the palette,

in an attempt to recreate this sumptuous sunset over the Lake District.

I am quite pleased with the way it turned out. It focuses more on the shimmers created by the sunset light of the ripples on the water, rather than just the typical colours of sunset, like a  previous Sunset look I made in the past, and which I wore on a night out with my colleagues!!

Nothing much is going on the rest of the face, but I’ll show you anyway so that you have an idea of the bigger picture of this look. Is that even English? Meh, I don’t know. I am French :P Oh and I am totally wearing my 'photograph t-shirt’ the other way round. That was for artistic purposes, of course.

Bohemian was a real pleasure to play with. It’s an amazing palette. You know me by now, if I thought it was crap, I would tell you. I’ve done 3 looks with it in total. Keep your eyes peeled tomorrow as I will be posting one of the 2 others looks I’ve done with Bohemian. Originally, this palette was sold at Superdrug at £4.99. The person I pinched the picture from on eBay (makeupjunkie1984) is selling it at £19.99 if you’re interested…

Click here if you want to see Claire’s Look. I can’t wait to see which palette she chose to do her look with :)

Anyone wants to join me for next week Sleek Saturday?

Sunset Stilettos – Makeup Look

Sometimes there simply just aren’t enough hours in the day to do all the things you want to do. When my twitter and blogger friend Amrita (The 6 inch Stilettos) invited her readers to take part in her ‘1 week sunset makeup challenge’ I was super excited and couldn’t wait to take part, even though I already owned and loved the prize which was up for grabs (the ‘sunset’ 12 eyeshadow palette from Sleek Makeup) I just wanted to take part for the fun of it, but frustratingly I ran out of time. Anyway, enough of crying of spilt milk, I still  wanted to play with my bright eyeshadows and create a classic sunset look inspired from this photo: A beautiful sunset over Oakland Beach, in Rhode Island. (source: Google Omages)

ri-sunset

and this is my interpretation.

SAM_7789

For the eyes, I used, layered over two faced shadow insurance and nyx jumbo pencil in milk, 2 colours Sleek Makeup Acid palette on the crease (the purple and the fuchsia) Shu Uemura Yellow Eyeliner as a base for my yellow, Nyx single eyeshadow in mellow yelllow, the orange I use aaaalll the time from the ‘eBay makeup palette’ . As a highlighter I used Mac Vanilla (quelle surprise?) and 17 Cosmetics Lilac Shimmer.

For the undereye area, my favourite eyepencil from revlon matte in oure white,  Eyeko line and shine on the lower lashline, layered with the purple from the acid palette from Sleek Makeup. I don’t know quite frankly, I keep on buying purple eyeshadows, coz I always instinctively reach out for the acid purple for my purple cravings.

I leave you with other sunset pictures. Are you inspired to create a look? You won’t win anything, other than the pleasure of playing with bright colours just for the fun of it :)  x

Reptile at Sunset – Editorial Makeup

Guess what? Yes, I am taking part in another makeup contest on YouTube. The contest is hosted by sweet and talented Hugo aka teporchuchis on youtube. The mission was to create an editorial look, you know the kind of look you would find in a fashion magazine, or on a catwalk, and probably not in the frozen veg section at Asda. First things first, let me show introduce you to Teporchuchis. Now this is the kind of makeup he’s been treating us to, no pressure at all lol :)

008 007

If I had a comfort zone in makeup, an editorial look would be totally out of it. I’d like to say that I enjoyed every minute creating this look, but I really had a hard time lol. But I really wanted to take part in the contest, not so much in the hope of winning it, but to support Hugo in his first contest, being a big fan of his.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is my ‘reptile at sunset’ look. Brace yourselves as I try my hands at eyebrow block covering. This was before the ‘reptile pattern’ thingy

013009

The lashes are made up of 2 pair of lashes, the lashes I’ve wearing about 1000 times and some fancy ones from W7 which I bought at TJ Hughes. Here’s me attempting some reptilian pattern. I spare you all the cursing this has caused :P

Thanks for reading. Any tips on eyebrow blocking are more than welcome :) xx
