Becoming Blue for Halloween

Take one liloo with no makeup on. This is so scary in itself, it could have been perfect to scare the kids out, or anyone for that matter.

Leave your hair to grow for a year, braid your hair and put the coolest looking contact lenses in. I bought them with my own money from eyesbright.com and I chose the ones which were actually called 'avatar' lenses. The lenses looked absolutely amazing, the perfect shade of yellow with darker brown on the outer circle. However, I think I must have worn them inside them out as I could really feel the lenses throughout the night. To make matter worse, I forgot to remove them at the end of the night, slept with them and ended up with a blurry vision for a day which spooked me out. For the love of Halloween, no matter how tipsy you are, please please please remember to take out your special effects lenses before going to bed, ok?

I was asked if I was going to the full works and get my whole body blue but I chose to do a half mask again and I am so glad I did. It was raining on both nights (Saturday preceding Halloween and Halloween night itself) and I can't begin to imagine what it would have been like to be rained on with wet paint smudging all over the body.

This is what I used: For the actual paint, I mixed a bit of blue and white Ben Nye Magicolor Liquid Paint. No need to mix it water, it's already the perfect consistency. I only mixed the blue and white to make the blue a smidge lighter. I absolutely love this face paint, and I have used the blue many times as a eyeliner on my toucan look and on my flamingo look

I chose the biggest eyelashes I could find in my stash, added a bit of black in the crease to define the eyes a bit more than last year. The face paint is great, very resisting to the elements. The downside is that it's very hard to blend eyeshadow on top. Blend too much and you start to wear off the paint underneath. To add a little bit of sparkle, I added some glitter pigment from Mac on the eyelids.

Once the base was on, I added my markings very very gently with a random brush and some plain black eyeshadow. The little white dots were done by simply dipping an old eyeliner brush straight into the white liquid paint.

The piece de resistance was my lovely handmade ears from my best friend @joannadelilah, the ultimate master of disguise on YouTube. She made them herself, from scratch, first making a mould and then creating them with some liquid latex! I love my ears, I've worn them 4 times now. I have the nose to go with it but I am a bit shy to wear it.

Finishes touches were some mini crystals stuck on some white dots and a generous spray of Ben Nye Final Seal all over my face. My avatar mask stayed so well through the night. Even the little crystals stay put! The response I had throughout the night was absolutely amazing. I was the only avatar in the hood but people recognised me instantly. 'Oh it's Avatar' they kept on saying. I had such a buzz, despite my fuller figure this year.

I think I might have gone overboard on the white dots, I prefer the look I was wearing on Halloween Night itself (Monday 31st October) but much prefer the look of these avatar lenses.

Did you go out for Halloween? Feel free to link me to your piccies. I'd love to have a look! x

Taking your Halloween costume to the next level...

Do you know what's frustrating? You want to make an impression, take your fancy dress costume to the next level, go and make the effort and expense to buy some fancy coloured contact lenses and they're rubbish: You try them on and they look nothing like the picture, and they are 10,000 times darker and duller. If only you could see it on a real person. Unless contact lenses buyers/wearer start to blog their experiences share their real unedited pictures or videos, buying contact lenses is always going to be a risky business.

Whilst looking for some contact lenses yesterday, I stumbled upon eyesbright.com who have been going the extra mile to show us what their lenses look like on a real person. They have set a whole youtube channel full of normal people like you and me, men or women, showcasing the lenses in a video footage and it's quite simply genius! And and and they really made an effort to create a makeup look around the character to showcase the lenses.

Not all the lenses that eyebrights sell have got youtube videos for them but it's a start.

Fancy, for example, some Alice in Wonderland Mad Hatter's eyes?
This is the official picture and this is the video for it.

Quite a difference huh?

If you're wondering, despite the strong 'advertorial' tone of this blog post, no one has contacted me to tell you about eyebrights. Probably the whole world already knows about them. I didn't personally and wanted to shout over the rooftops about their youtube channel, as I think it's simple, revolutionary and helpful.

Will you be getting some lenses for this Halloween?

Quick and Easy 'Football' Inspired Eye Makeup

Do I even need to introduce the context? The Football World Cup has started and I wanted to do have fun and do some makeup this time, instead of just wearing a French top. So what happens when your French football t-shirt has shrunk in the wash and you only have 15 minutes to do a makeup to support your team? You wear a plain white t-shirt and you do this makeup…

020

I used mainly plain matte colours:  1 white, 2 blue, and 1 red with some dark purple to darken the crease of both the blue and the red eye. Looking at it now, it looks like the purple had some shimmer in it. Oops. Oh and no time to do anything with the lashline.

016

I got the red from the 88 ebay matte palette and the blue from my W7 neon palette. The white is from my trusted nyx trio palette, which is always knocking about. I then used some vanilla from mac to do some quick blending. I didn't even have to do blush or anything. Oh and some false lashes for good measure of course. I am amazed they did not blow in the wind, as the application was super rushed.

Tomorrow, (well later on today) I got to do a England Inspired Makeup Look. Any ideas girlies?  ^_^

Sequinning Around for Mardi Gras

As if attempting to recreate deannario’s blaze eyebrows was not hard enough, this time, I took the challenge to enter the “Mardi Gras & Beyond” makeup contest hosted by 4 lovely girls on YouTube: sophiechicken, degreesofshining, anneorshine and tinybubbles1841. I decided to create a very simple light pink masquerade/parade type of mask. I entered the contest mainly to support the girls and as usual it was an excuse to challenge myself and play around with makeup.

I did not plan to plait my hair, but as I was copying what the makeup artists do, and put a blob a eyelash glue on my hand and use it as a palette, it all ended up in my hair!!!

St Patrick's Day Inspired Makeup

One of my favourite makeup artists on youtube, letzmakeup has been hosting a makeup contest for her birthday based on  St Patrick’s Day. I spent ages wanting to have to have shamrocks on face, thinking what was the best way to do it, as my freehand skills were failing me. After also being unsuccessful at designing my own stencils, I wanted to do a look inspired the lovely black, brown, golden colours of a pint of guinness and this lovely cloud forming when you pour the drink inside a pint. Result nowhere near a pint of guinness.

My third inspiration had to be the one: the Irish flag. I was thrilled to be able to use orange again on my lids, and ended up AGAIN wanting to have orange lips. I have stopped counting the looks where I want to wear orange lipstick.

025
Thanks to my lovely hairdresser de merde who hacked off my fringe, I am sporting a black hairband. I will probably carry on wearing this for the next month.

SAM_31668 This is what I used on the eyes:

- 2 greens from 120 palette and 1 green from the ACID sleek makeup palette
- Orange from 120 palette
- Two faced shadow insurance, nyx jumbo pencil in milk
- Brown from Gosh Cosmetics Trio TR2 smokey
- White & Black from Nyx Trio Palette TS01
- Vanilla from Mac
- 2 pairs of eyelashes (eylure glamour 101 & green ones)
- about 3 random cheapo eyepencils (white, brown, black)

I had to show in the youtube video how I ended up to the finished result but I’ll spare you watching the video. To start off, basically I literally wanted to have the irish flag on my eyelids, but that looked hideous. So I opted for orange on all the lid, but then ended with something very very one dimensional so I tried to add a bit more depht my way.
A little before and (some time) after for you. Although I did muck about with it for ages after that photo.

I never know how to end a post, so, i see you around then, bye xxm oh and happy st patrick’s day if you’re still out celebrating x

Happy Naughty Year ^_^

For New Year's Eve, I wanted to go out in fancy dressed costume and chose to be a little devil. I am still very much a beginner in makeup, so I asked my friend Bri aka 'spittingglitter' on youtube ideas for it.

Not only she helped me with ideas, but she dropped everything and created a devil for me instantly.

So this is what spittingglitter sent me:

Unfortunately, I ran out of time, I did not have time to do the 'fork eyeliner' finishing touch. But where I failed the most was with the lips! They were meant to be shiny blackest black with a red centre & ended up in all the variations of red, purple, and black throughout the night.

My finished look ended up looking nowhere like the original. All in all, the look is ok, definitely lasted through the night, but needs polishing, tidying, more contouring, definitely more thought out work on the lips, and the fork liner!

After this mouth watering introduction, here's my look.

Elffing around

What’s Christmas for you? For me, it’s more about the parties around Christmas, rather than the day itself. This year, once again I decided to go out in a Christmas Fancy Dress on Christmas Eve. Originally I wanted to be a little reindeer as I purchased some fantastic gold copper sequins antlers last year but could not I find an outfit that I liked. So I decided to be an elf. Bought this dress from a shop in Preston and I was thrilled to see that the cut was a lot more flattering and covering that the majority of dresses I had seen around.

On the photo, the material looks pretty rigid, the dress looks short but still remains wearable-ish. Here’s me modelling the dress just before going out.

The dress came up with an assorted hat but I wanted to wear my mini elf hat instead, even though the two shades of green clashed. On the photos the clash is even more striking but in reality and in the whole night scene, it was hardly imperceptible. (more pictures to follow below)

SAM_1332

Makeup wise, I did some sort of green & white cut crease look, using 3 greens from my 120 eyeshadow palette from eBay. In retrospect, I wish I had done a red look, but doing a green look was technically easier to do. I had also had some white glitter on the lid although this does not show at all on the picture but was beautiful in reality. For lashes, I wore some lashes from claire’s accessories. I probably have used them about 6 times, shocking but they are so durable!

Red lipstick or even red on the lower lash line would have made the look better also, but I do not have the teeth to sport red lipstick. And again, I wanted to be care free. Shortness of the dress and losing my camera was enough for me to worry about!

011The reality of that dress turned out to be a nightmare. Coupled with some tights whose crotch kept on going down, and a dress which creeped up every 2 steps I made, I only managed one drink in one bar, and had to come back home to rethink the whole thing again. The material was too stretchy and the dress ended up like a top more than anything. Fortunately, I live bang in town, and 2 minutes away from all the bars, dangerously handy ;)

006

So basically, after my first drink, I came back home, removed the tights, wore some black leggings, and felt instantly better and went straight out again. There is, I feel, nothing as unsexy and unattractive as a girl who feels too self conscious about her outfit. It really shows and I really wanted to have fun. And boy I had fun :)

What about you? Did you do anything on Christmas Eve? Any fancy dress at all? Do share your pics :) I loooooooove fancy dress! It’s so much fun!
