Sequin Drama

I have stopped counting the number of times I've genuinely put Tammy Sequin Dress in my shopping basket. It has gone from available in my size, to unavailable and to available again. So naturally, I just had to feature it in my entry for the Boohoo Christmas #partypose challenge.

Before you think and sulk about not having been invited to take part in the challenge, let me reassure you I was not invited either :) Boohoo is inviting bloggers to blog about their dream outfit from the website, I browse a lot on Boohoo so naturally I wanted to take part. The idea is to create an outfit with at least 3 items from the website and the maximum you can 'fantasy' spend is £100. A doddle considering how affordable the clothes are on boohoo.

I was dying to feature the Tammy Sequin Dress as it is a dress I have genuinely been contemplating buying. I feel the dress would help enhance my good bits (the waist and the midriff). Most of all, it's the flared bottom half that I like. It's right in between a pencil skirt type of skirt and a full on fifties/skater skirt, without (I hope) being too clingy on the thighs which is my problem area. I think I need to try it.

There are however 4 reasons why I haven't bought it so far:

1) I have a short bust and I feel this is so low cut that it might show my navel. This won't be a problem for Roberta, my alteration lady up the road though.
2) Strewth this dress is long. Is it not going to drown the 5ft2 person that I am?
3) I absolutely love the sequin drama but the back looks a little bit too much like a swimming costume. Will I like that in real life? What I could sew (well, stick) some mesh fabric underneath. Would I like it better like that?
4) What if it is too clingy on the thighs?

I just can't make up my mind. I feel so drawn to this dress. It's so rare to find dresses these days which are not bodycon or skater style.

I decided to pair Tammy Sequin with a baroque necklace to add a bit more to the skin. This dress shows so much skin, that I wanted to dress the body back a little if that makes sense. And last but not least, the uber gorgeous lillie diamonte shoes. They are not perfect, and they look like they have this suedette effect on them (it's not my favourite type of material to be honest) but I love the shape, the diamonte straps, the chunkiness, the height and the price.

I hope you liked my second (and final) entry to this #partypose challenge. If you want to take part yourself, you can find out all about it here. Thanks for reading xx

Bronze Baroque

I have resisted and resisted but it's December in just under 2 hours and it's finally time to realise that Christmas is coming, whether I've reached my target weight or not (I haven't). I don't have many preparations to do at all, and no presents to buy - that's the advantage of not having a family -  but I do have a few parties coming up in December and I need to find outfits to party in.

The Boohoo #Partypose challenge could not come at a better time. I've heard about it today through my friend Jade, aka the Beauty Butterfly Blog. The challenge is to create an outfit collage of at least 3 products available on boohoo.com. The full outfit must cost less than £100. This is a very easy challenge, as the clothes are boohoo are very very affordable. I couldn't wait to take part. I had four outfits ideas but I decided to post my two favourites ones.

My first collage is called Bronze Baroque. Baroque because of the beautiful Lydia Baroque dress which is the centerpiece of this outfit.

The dress is described to have a 'skater' style. I don't usually go for skater style dresses. This is because, although they accentuate the waist and are very feminine, they tend to bulk up the thighs and the bum. But I feel this one is different as the material seems to be forgiving and skimming. I absolutely love the baroque gold/bronze detail and the see through mesh insert which allows to show some flesh. I also love the way you can wear your biggest cleavage boosting bra underneath and all I need is some clear straps.

I decided to pair the dress with some golden owl earrings with a little stone for eyes and some bargainous black rhinestones high heels.

04-boohoo-party-pose-lydia-baroque-dress-imogen-diamonte-heels-shoes

As if the outfit was not bargainous enough, Boohoo is offering 15% of all the dresses and shoes until Sunday 02 December 2012, 23:59 if you enter the code PARTY15 at checkout.

Like this challenge and want to take part yourself? You don't have to receive a special invitation to take part and the prize is pretty amazing: £100 to spend on yourself. You can read all about it here.

Missguided Monochromes

We've all been there before. It's the last stretch of road before pay day and we're planning to only spend money on basics to tie us up until the beginning of the next month. And then, some special offer comes up and tests our willpower. The already very affordable Missguided Clothing range has just launched a special 48-hour offer and is offering 10% on all dresses. Delivery is only £1.95 (you can't even send a lipstick in the post for that amount anymore) and I am tempted, very tempted. I wanted to share with you some of my favourite dresses from the website.

This is so weird as I never planned for a black and white only selection and it's only when I finished my wishlist that I realised the coincidence of it all.

01-missguided-clothing-monochrome-selection-dresses-special-offer

01-missguided-clothing-peter-pan-dress-special-offer

1. Peter Pan (£21.99) Not a chance I could carry this dress off on bare legs but I could see myself wearing this top/dress with a pair of black tights, or smart leggings. This is perfect for my body shape: shows the waist, and not clinging on the hips, and very floating all around.

01-missguided-clothing-peter-marle-special-offer

2. Marle (£29.99) I would need to choose my best add-a-cup strapless bra to be able to wear this number and the dress is potentially a wardrobe malfunction in disguise (will I flash some boobage if I raise my arms?) but I don't care. The lace bustier is just divine. Colour scheme is spot on: light at the top to give the illusion that this part of the body is bigger, and darker on the bottom half, to minimise the sheer size of my child bearing hips.

01-missguided-clothing-peter-evangeline-special-offer

3. Evangeline (26.99) How cute is this dress! With my short torso, the low neck is probably low enough to reveal my belly button but perhaps I wear a bit of lace there? I don't know. It is so pretty!

01-missguided-clothing-bertha-marle-special-offer

4. Bertha (£16.99) This dress/blouse looks very similar in style to the Peter Pan dress/tunic and would definitely require some thick tights or leggings to avoid flashing my modesty to the world.

01-missguided-clothing-bibietta-special-offer

5. And last but not least, my favourite of them all. This is Bibietta (£21.99) and this dress makes me feel weak at the knees. The lace is very similar to Marle but the whole dress is much more wearable than Marle. I could see myself wearing this little number during the day, with a coloured jacket to break up the black and white theme and I really want it.

02-missguided-clothing-monochrome-selection-dresses-special-offer

Now, if only this offer lasted a few more days, say, until Wednesday (Pay Day) then Bibietta would have definitely be mine. For now, it will have to remain in my wishlist. Crying face

Warmer Sunnier Days = Happier Days?

barefeet

I honestly don't remember what I was doing on this day one year ago, but I really don't think we had such an amazing weather, this time last year. The past 2 week ends have been absolutely amazing, and dare I say, almost warm enough to feel the heat of the sun, directly on your skin or in lightweight clothing. You could almost feel free to finally shed some layers and bare your feet. Almost, if only the F&F police hadn't been around. I'm not referring to Florence & Fred, the clothing range on sale at Tesco, but to the Fashion and Feet Police, friends, family or people from the general public or twitterland who have become beauty experts and are not afraid to express to tell you what is acceptable to wear in this weather.

You have finally some good weather, you can finally bare your feet but oh no, you can't wear flip flops, because your feet are not freshly pedicured and they have a bit of dry skin on the heel. You are supposed to book an appointment to the beautician, sort your 'minging' feet out, have your toes painted and then (apparently unpainted toes are a complete no-no for the F&F police) and only then can you have the confidence to bare your feet in public. You know what the British weather is like, it might be winter again and chucking it down by the time I've had that done. Like we didn't feel enough pressure with beauty magazines the last thing we need is people around you making you feel ashamed and ugly because your feet are not freshly pedicured. I've started the month, as pretty much every other month with a big dent in my overdraft, and having to budget for a new shower to be fixed and various other boring stuff. Are you suggesting I am not allowed to get my feet out in my lunch break, on the grass, ‘cause the last pedicure I had was about 4 years ago, in case it might traumatize the sight of some passer-by?

I love beauty, I even blog about beauty, it's my hobby. During my free time, and when I feel like it, I like to pamper myself because it makes me feel happy and good about myself. But it doesn't  mean that when I don't pamper myself, I should feel like a recluse who should be kept in doors, away from the public eye.

Fashion Fawn Nails and Brown/Taupe Polishes comparison

I've been wondering whether I was a bit harsh with my review of Nails Inc Instyle Orange Candy yesterday. On Emma's positive experiences on Fashion Fawn and Electric Teal, the other 2 shades of nails inc polishes, also free on purchase of In Style magazine this month, I decided to buy 'Fashion Fawn'. Everything is all right with the world again.

Application was the usual easy and I couldn't fault the formula. I was able to be more in control the application again and no hint of gloopyness in sight. I had one hair on the brush right in the middle of the brush longer than the others but it was nothing that a quick snip with a pair of scissors couldn't fix. My photos show 2 coats of polish. Fashion Fawn gets my thumbs up!

I am not very good at describing shades, and comparing it with others. For me it's brown, a nice shade of brown. I am going to leave you all nail polish aficionados and taupe experts to appreciate the nuances in my little comparison swatch below. Thank you Emma for the comparison inspiration :) xx

Image5

I really enjoyed that exercise. I have found that:
- Barry M Mushroom was the easiest to apply (They have really nailed their formula!!)
- I still want to recycle / blog sale Accessorize Truffle: not too keen on the brush, it feels so short. I am not very comfortably applying it, the size of the cap of the truffle feels disproportionately too wide too big compared to the length of the brush. I can’t believe how grey and dark it looks here!
- My favourite brown from this little swatch is Jermyn Street and it made me appreciate it even more.

This is one of these times when I would have loved to be a freak, to have 4 more fingers on the same hand and compare more shades at once. Now if you want to compare nails inc london, fashion fawn, eyeko posh and no.7 'the brown one' I'd love you for ever :)

Clothes Bargains, Stripes and Scarlets

I saw this this morning and wanted to share with you my favourites picks.
Ark Clothing is having a 50% sale and there are some fabulous bargains to be made.

I very rarely blog about fashion but I would like to take the opportunity to do a little shout out to my Greek friend Arietta / Pasiphae  (Stripes and Scarlets) who does blog about fashion and does a pretty good job at it. She's doing a 'fashion project 365' on her blog.  Forget self portraits and poxy photos taken holding your camera and seeing the glare of the flash bouncing back at you. Photography on her blog is top notch.

To top if all off, there are some close ups on her jewellery, shoes and and and makeup look of the day. Your makeup looks whether dramatic/evening wear or for the day are ultra wearable. But don't just take my words for it. Here's a little collection of her recent looks on her youtube channel :)

New Crush for Boohoo

I’ve always liked clothes browsing and shopping at Boohoo.com but the website was so basic before and it made the whole experience very tedious. Not anymore as since last night boohoo has revamped and uncovered its new website. Gone are the days where you needed to trawl through endlesspages and pages of items,  you can now view up to 120 items per page, narrow your browsing results by size and sort the whole thing by price range. I am super excited. Best of all, the prices are still the same and the clothes are so affordable. Love it! I could not resist showing you my loves du jour.

Now the last one looks a bit like the model a wearing a safety belt but I still like it :P
