Sequin Drama

I have stopped counting the number of times I've genuinely put Tammy Sequin Dress in my shopping basket. It has gone from available in my size, to unavailable and to available again. So naturally, I just had to feature it in my entry for the Boohoo Christmas #partypose challenge.

Before you think and sulk about not having been invited to take part in the challenge, let me reassure you I was not invited either :) Boohoo is inviting bloggers to blog about their dream outfit from the website, I browse a lot on Boohoo so naturally I wanted to take part. The idea is to create an outfit with at least 3 items from the website and the maximum you can 'fantasy' spend is £100. A doddle considering how affordable the clothes are on boohoo.

I was dying to feature the Tammy Sequin Dress as it is a dress I have genuinely been contemplating buying. I feel the dress would help enhance my good bits (the waist and the midriff). Most of all, it's the flared bottom half that I like. It's right in between a pencil skirt type of skirt and a full on fifties/skater skirt, without (I hope) being too clingy on the thighs which is my problem area. I think I need to try it.

There are however 4 reasons why I haven't bought it so far:

1) I have a short bust and I feel this is so low cut that it might show my navel. This won't be a problem for Roberta, my alteration lady up the road though.
2) Strewth this dress is long. Is it not going to drown the 5ft2 person that I am?
3) I absolutely love the sequin drama but the back looks a little bit too much like a swimming costume. Will I like that in real life? What I could sew (well, stick) some mesh fabric underneath. Would I like it better like that?
4) What if it is too clingy on the thighs?

I just can't make up my mind. I feel so drawn to this dress. It's so rare to find dresses these days which are not bodycon or skater style.

I decided to pair Tammy Sequin with a baroque necklace to add a bit more to the skin. This dress shows so much skin, that I wanted to dress the body back a little if that makes sense. And last but not least, the uber gorgeous lillie diamonte shoes. They are not perfect, and they look like they have this suedette effect on them (it's not my favourite type of material to be honest) but I love the shape, the diamonte straps, the chunkiness, the height and the price.

Bronze Baroque

I have resisted and resisted but it's December in just under 2 hours and it's finally time to realise that Christmas is coming, whether I've reached my target weight or not (I haven't). I don't have many preparations to do at all, and no presents to buy - that's the advantage of not having a family -  but I do have a few parties coming up in December and I need to find outfits to party in.

The Boohoo #Partypose challenge could not come at a better time. I've heard about it today through my friend Jade, aka the Beauty Butterfly Blog. The challenge is to create an outfit collage of at least 3 products available on boohoo.com. The full outfit must cost less than £100. This is a very easy challenge, as the clothes are boohoo are very very affordable. I couldn't wait to take part. I had four outfits ideas but I decided to post my two favourites ones.

My first collage is called Bronze Baroque. Baroque because of the beautiful Lydia Baroque dress which is the centerpiece of this outfit.

The dress is described to have a 'skater' style. I don't usually go for skater style dresses. This is because, although they accentuate the waist and are very feminine, they tend to bulk up the thighs and the bum. But I feel this one is different as the material seems to be forgiving and skimming. I absolutely love the baroque gold/bronze detail and the see through mesh insert which allows to show some flesh. I also love the way you can wear your biggest cleavage boosting bra underneath and all I need is some clear straps.

I decided to pair the dress with some golden owl earrings with a little stone for eyes and some bargainous black rhinestones high heels.

As if the outfit was not bargainous enough, Boohoo is offering 15% of all the dresses and shoes until Sunday 02 December 2012, 23:59 if you enter the code PARTY15 at checkout.

Like this challenge and want to take part yourself? You don't have to receive a special invitation to take part and the prize is pretty amazing: £100 to spend on yourself. You can read all about it here.

So you're a brunette and want blue eyes, huh?

Many of you will know already about my passion of fancy dress and dramatic makeup transformation. About 2 years ago, I bought some blue contact lenses, I am not quite sure why, now come to think of it but I bought some. They were not suitable for Halloween (I needed yellow ones for the second year running) so I thought what a better time than New Year's Eve to wear them. The lenses I bought were from Colour Vue and the actual model is called 'Solar Blue'.

I had seen plenty of people wearing some people with dark eyes like me wearing blue lenses but the result had always been a little underwhelming and screaming 'not blue and not dramatic enough.

Were Solar Blue going to turn the same way? Umm, it went pretty much the other way: too dramatic and too freaky looking frankly. In real life, and away from the strong camera flash they appear less bright but still definitely too bright for my liking. In case some of you are into colour contact lenses, here are some pictures of the transformation.

So there you go. If you wanted to have a dramatic colour change, this is what solar blue could look like on your dark eyes.

In case you’re not into contact lenses, here is an attempt at capturing my outfit of the night. My dress is a very simple dress from ASOS, bought in sale at £10 ages ago but it’s my mock stockings tights which I like the best. They were £4.99 and I bought from New Look. I hate my knees so this is perfect to hide them Smile

The quest for dramatic but less freaky colour lenses carries on. Next I want green eyes Smile

Are you into contact lenses? If you are, and blogged about them, please please please send me a link. Or if you have some funki tights, spam me with your link as well. I am nosy and I want to have a look.

Outfit and Makeup for New Year’s Eve - Fail

I don’t know how you fashion bloggers take pictures yourself of your outfit but I am really struggling. How on earth you manage to do these shots of yourself in the mirror with not the flash glaring back at you, I really don’t know. I really liked what I wore for new year’s eve but sadly I failed to capture it very well and I mainly rely of some random girl in the ladies’ toilets in a bar to take a picture for me. Sadly it didn’t work out and the pictures didn’t come out very well. So please excuse the little bits of photo I took to recreate the photo of the night and most of all please excuse the unsightly yellow lighting.

I decided to wear a fancy black corset, a simple black skirt, some really high heels from New Look., with a little jean jacket. I wanted a all black outfit because I wanted a very very dramatic makeup.

Accessories wise, I wore one of my favourite pendant: a diamante pendant from Asos, teamed up with a random diamante cheap bracelet and a black jet butterfly bracelet from Diva (bought at warehouse if my memory serves me right.

For my makeup, I wore nearly exactly the same makeup as my contest entry for Glitterdollz7 but I made the cut crease even more dramatic and drag makeup looking, with a extended ‘up in the air’ white wing. Of course it had to be all glittery as well. Details for everything I used to do this look in my previous post here. These pictures were taken before lipstick. I wore mytrusted mac blankety and the first lipgloss I found.
What about the contouring and the blush and all that, will you ask? I did put some stuff on the cheeks from elf but 1. I am not very good at it 2. My camera which is very kind to me and smoothes my features/skin and all, also washes off my contouring attempts.

Christmas Eve Party Makeup and Outfit of the … night

Some of you will know that I’m not too big on Christmas but I do love the parties around it. For me, it’s a blatant excuse to wear extravagant makeup and a bit of fancy dress too. Last night I went out and was a little miss santa for the night.

SAM_1387

My makeup is very similar to my little devil makeup from last year (main ingredient being red loose glitter and my splash proof sealer – see tutorial-ish here).

I wish I could go back and fix the blending on one eye. To be honest, no one noticed it really, and the red glitter distracted the attention. Aww there was this one guy and he went ‘ hey, your red… err… thing (making gestures at this point, pointing towards my eye) is cool. I went ‘did you mean my eyeshadow?’ Bless, they don’t have a clue, don’t they? :)

As for outfit, it was very much recycled: I wore a red top from Jane Norman (bought from ebay years ago), an A-line skirt from Marks and Spencer from 10 years hacked up with scissors to vamp it up a little bit, just one over the knee sock on one legs, fishnets tights from wilkinson’s (seriously, they are the best – don’t bother buying some from posher brands as they are too stretchy) and knee high boots from eBay. The white fluff is a christmas fluffy decoration from BHS stuck on the top with tit tape :) This outfit is a bit on the tarty side, but there so much flesh shown around last night that I actually felt classy haha. I don’t like this picture, i look like I got no neck whatsoever.

Oh and my hat is from eBay. It’s genius, it’s made with a invisible rubber band. Love it.
