White chocolate wonder

The pretty packaging, the fact it was called 'white chocolate mousse' and that it was written 'moisturising' led me to buy this and nothing else. Well, also because it was only 99p. I bought this in a hurry and at home I realised it had clay in it.

I like to stay away from clay masks. It doesn't irritate my skin or anything like that but I've got the habit to leave clay masks for too long and the removal becomes too painful and my skin becomes red after all. I left this mask for over 22 minutes (I told you I was bad with respecting times) and at no point it was flakey rock hard like a normal mud mask. Maybe I got confused, maybe it's mud masks that turn rock hard solid if you leave them too long and clay masks are ok? I don't know. I was delighted to find out that my white chocolate mousse mask was surprisingly easy to remove, despite leaving it for too long. It was a bit dusty as would be expected but still surprisingly soft at the touch when I removed it.

I was even more impressed by the scent. Don't be mislaid by the title and expect a sickly 'white chocolate mousse' scent. They should have never called it 'white chocolate mousse'.  This smells of cocoa and vanilla and it makes the whole weekly face mask routine such a pleasure.

Despite initial unpleasant hot sensation which lasted a few minutes on my skin, this mask felt absolutely divine on and I would totally recommend it if you wanted to give a skin a little pamper session and moisturising your skin. It left my skin soft, plumped and i can't wait to buy it again. if you want to slip this into my secret santa sock, I'd think you'd have very good taste Smile

Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the mattest of them all?

If the descendants of Brother Grimm received royalties every time their classic fairy tale of Snow White was adapted to a movie form, they would have probably been multi millionaires by now. 2012 alone, to name but but a few, has seen the success of the ABC Once Upon a Time Series and Mirror Mirror with Julia Roberts. June will see the release of another Snow White movie adaptation Snow White & The Huntsman with 'Twilight' Kristen Stewart as Snow White and 'Dior Ad' Charlize Theron as the evil queen. Better still, there is a pretty makeup palette inspired by the movie to be released.

To coincide with the June 2012 release of the film, Italian upmarket cosmetic brand Diego Dalla Palma got a deal with Universal Films to be the official cosmetics partner and will be releasing a palette containing a 6 eyeshadows, a full size red lipstick and an eye pencil.

I know what you're thinking. The box set doesn't look as fancy and luxurious as the Urban Decay Alice in Wonderland box set. On the plus side, the palette offers a refreshing mix of 3 shimmery shades and 3 matte shades. Finally some matte shades!

I will have to wait and see some swatches before committing onto buying the palette (£25) but for now I am very excited about the collaboration, it makes me want to play with makeup and I can't wait to see the film!

Bonsoir Kitty – Evening 'Spurkle' Cut Crease Party Look

YouTube Makeup Guru Carly aka Glitterdollz7 is doing a makeup contest at the moment. The mission is to recreate one of her makeup  looks. This is my favourite kind of contests: we do after all watch makeup tutorials in the hope of recreating them, right? It was  hard to choose what to do. For ages, I wanted to recreate her Barbie loves Mac look. I was also toying with the idea to recreate her  interpretation of Nina Flowers Drag Look since my eyebrows are very much ready for this kind of look at the moment.

Image23

But I eventually  settled for her 'H&M Cut Crease Spurkle’ Look (sparkle and purple). This was such such such such a pleasure to do: I love glitter so  much I could have it for Breakfast. My favourite kind of makeup is drag-gy exaggerated elevated cut crease look at it helps to lift  my droopy lids and and and I've got this one shoulder dress I am thinking of maybe wear for new year's eve and I really wanted to  try my hands at a sparkly and festive purple look.

Image18

Image46

In reality, the glitter is much much more vibrant and it was hard to capture with  the camera but I hope you'll still be able to see it.

Image47

Carly used mainly the purse friendly H&M Hello Kitty Palette to create her look. I didn't have this so I used the following  ingredients:
- purple from Sleek Acid Makeup Palette
- black from Sleek Acid Makeup Palette
- darkest purple from eBay 120 palette
- Mac Blanc Type Eyeshadow
- Fashion Lashes (101 I think?) from Ardell (Ugh, can't stand invisiband lashes, hate them!!) & Eylure Glue
- White eyeshadow from Nyx Trio
- Splash Proof Sealer to stick the glitter on
- Glitter: mixture of mac 3D silver (just a liiiiiiitle bit) and main one used was White Fairy Dust (white and green glitter) from eBay (the one with the  white lid below)

Image24

They have also other colours if you want to see on my twitpic here. I love loose glitter. Next I want to buy  bright royal blue mixed with peacock blue glitter.

I’ve made a little montage of some bloopers for you below. Excuse the yellow lighting, it’s the best I can do with my silly camera:

Hopi Halloween everyone :) - My first OPI NOTD

Words are just buzzing in my head. I feel I am unable to organise my thoughts. I am deeply moved and without the shadow of doubt I am wearing the most gorgeous nail polish which has ever been created. Introducing the red mini polish from Opi part of the get-in-spider-ed mini set from years ago which landed on my doorstep, as a sumptuous Halloween gift from my sweet sweet @drew692 aka debbie harris aka beauty begins.

SAM_8918

If you think I am usually posting way too many pictures of my nails whenever I do a notd, you're in a for a shock  because I am finding it hard to narrow my selection ever more than usual.
In one word (or thereabout) possibly THE most gorgeous nail polish which has ever graced my nails and I am not saying this because this is a present from my blog BFF. I have never tried an OPI nail polish. (I find the bottle a bit too big, heavy and in your face) I knew it was good stuff but good grief I didn't know it  was this good. If I thought barry m polishes applied like a dream, it was until I applied this red (almost one coat) wonder).

SAM_8891

You could almost apply it with your feet it's that easy: it just glides and just wants to apply by itself within the parameters. My application is not tip top by no means but for my standards, it's pretty chuffing good. Here it is, with 2 coats on and with no clean up whatsoever (I know I am still applying it like 2 miles away from edges)

SAM_8892

Also part of this set, a gorgeous black polish which dries to a lovely glossy finish. You will need 3 coats with this colour but the layers dry reasonably quickly. On the ring finger for this manicure, I only applied only one coat of red to give you an idea of the 'pigmentation'. And now photo with the obligatory glow in the dark spider ring.

And last but not least, part of this set, the glow in the dark polish. Application was as easy as applying tippex on your nails with a toothpick and is rather messy but the result makes up for it. If you were to wear this polish out, I would suggest you would apply a coat of nail tip whitener first on the whole surface of the nail, and then a coat of the glow in the dark. Now, taking photos of this was quite err interesting. I am in love with my beautiful gift. Thank you so much drew!  I am in love!

How not to do a 60’s Twiggy Makeup Look

33881167_01__FMS

My pain in the bum friend, Charlotte from Lipglossiping.com has been invited to a cool party tomorrow. The theme is ‘Aussome 60’s’ and she wanted to do a makeup look inspired from the 60’s. One thing led to another, I was bribed started to look for 60’s makeup look tutorials on YouTube and somehow, ended up practising on myself. My hooded eyelids by nature going against me, I ended up with this drag version of Twiggy with a crease so high, it could mistaken for another pair of brows. I thought I’d post it for fun.

Charlotte: This is how NOT to do a Twiggy Look.

Who needs Mac Carbon & Gesso?

Ever since, I got into makeup, I have been wanting to buy Mac Carbon, acclaimed to be the blackest black eyeshadow around and Mac Gesso. I resisted long and hard and instead, I went on buying endless black shadows and being disappointed all the time. If only I had opted for Mac in the first place, it would have been cheaper for me in the long run. But somehow, I couldn’t justify spending £11 in a boring black and white shadow, however crucial those shadows are. So I gave it one last shot, before making the Mac plunge and purchased this Nyx Eyeshadow Trio in white/gray/black (TS01) from eBay.

Image31

The palette comes in a black elegant and sturdy case and is about 9 cm in length (that’s about 3 inches and a half for your with the imperial system) and a mirror, and the obligatory sponge applicator. One swatch of the black and I knew I had made the right choice: super pigmented and most definitely the blackest matte I have ever swatched: smooth, velvety, black. What more could anyone want?

Is it deeper and blacker than Mac Carbon? I got no idea. Carbon was just a myth and I actually never swatched it. I don’t even want to buy it anymore and I fully satisfied with this one and I am at rest.

SAM_5196

These are swatched straight onto the skin with no primer and I am in love with the black.
The white is good, much better than some of the matte white I have in my collection but I find it a bit chalky. As a matter of fact, I find all my matte whites chalky, so no surprises there. I don’t even know if Mac Gesso is whiter but I don’t fancy it anymore. I reckon if I use a white base, it will perfom well. I found the grey very good and not too shimmery. I am not sure when I am not going to use it, but for £2.94 (without postage and packing, which amounted to £2 proportionally? – I placed a big £40 order)  for this palette from ebay, new, this is by far the best buy of the year for me.

SAM_5122

I use white and black nearly everytime in my looks, and this palette is super handy. The size makes it also handy for carrying around, and it has become one of my must haves.  I am thrilled. *Woop* In the same order, I bought some other gems from NYX, so keep your eyes peeled, I have only just started :)

Elffing around

What’s Christmas for you? For me, it’s more about the parties around Christmas, rather than the day itself. This year, once again I decided to go out in a Christmas Fancy Dress on Christmas Eve. Originally I wanted to be a little reindeer as I purchased some fantastic gold copper sequins antlers last year but could not I find an outfit that I liked. So I decided to be an elf. Bought this dress from a shop in Preston and I was thrilled to see that the cut was a lot more flattering and covering that the majority of dresses I had seen around.

50743994-db29ab32a031c810904baef32e47312f_4b35352a-full

On the photo, the material looks pretty rigid, the dress looks short but still remains wearable-ish. Here’s me modelling the dress just before going out.

Image38

The dress came up with an assorted hat but I wanted to wear my mini elf hat instead, even though the two shades of green clashed. On the photos the clash is even more striking but in reality and in the whole night scene, it was hardly imperceptible. (more pictures to follow below)

SAM_1332

Makeup wise, I did some sort of green & white cut crease look, using 3 greens from my 120 eyeshadow palette from eBay. In retrospect, I wish I had done a red look, but doing a green look was technically easier to do. I had also had some white glitter on the lid although this does not show at all on the picture but was beautiful in reality. For lashes, I wore some lashes from claire’s accessories. I probably have used them about 6 times, shocking but they are so durable!

SAM_1311

SAM_1299

Red lipstick or even red on the lower lash line would have made the look better also, but I do not have the teeth to sport red lipstick. And again, I wanted to be care free. Shortness of the dress and losing my camera was enough for me to worry about!

011The reality of that dress turned out to be a nightmare. Coupled with some tights whose crotch kept on going down, and a dress which creeped up every 2 steps I made, I only managed one drink in one bar, and had to come back home to rethink the whole thing again. The material was too stretchy and the dress ended up like a top more than anything. Fortunately, I live bang in town, and 2 minutes away from all the bars, dangerously handy ;)

006

So basically, after my first drink, I came back home, removed the tights, wore some black leggings, and felt instantly better and went straight out again. There is, I feel, nothing as unsexy and unattractive as a girl who feels too self conscious about her outfit. It really shows and I really wanted to have fun. And boy I had fun :)

What about you? Did you do anything on Christmas Eve? Any fancy dress at all? Do share your pics :) I loooooooove fancy dress! It’s so much fun!
