Quick! Paint the town ... pink and win £250 of beauty products.

To say that I am not in the mood for blogging is an understatement. I am still very much excited about beauty products and very much still into keeping up with my blog subscriptions but I seem to have lost the drive to blog about my beauty experiences. But sometimes, events take precedence and I need to make exceptions. October is not only the month holding my favourite day of the year (Halloween) but it's also the month where beauty brands around the world unite, go pink and do their bit to raise awareness about breast cancer and raise money for the cause.

You will perhaps recall me posting about 'Paint for Life' the cute nail polish trio that Beautyuk released in support of Cancer Research UK and the moving story behind its creation. This week, BeautyUK is doing something pretty special: they are holding a pretty fabulous competition over on Facebook:

paint for life

Post a photo of you wearing pink nails on their facebook page and you could be on your way to win £250 of beautyuk products.

For the chance to win the MASSIVE £250 BEAUTYUK HAUL simply paint your nails pink, strike a pose, upload a photo anytime before 11.59pm on the 7th October. Up for it? Get more details on Beautyuk's facebook page, get painting, strike a pose, snap and have fun most of all.

I am not taking part in the competition, I am too involved in the creation of this set and I think it wouldn’t be fair if I won the competition, but if I won, i’d be wanting to spend some of my prize stash on the whole special effects glitte nail polish collection, so glitter-tastic Models Own Mirror Ball doesn’t want you to see it Winking smile This stock photo doesn't do it justice really. In real life, these £3.49 babies are out of this world!

Un petit moulin {fotn}

One of my favourite bloggers is holding a fabulous competition whereby you could win, thanks to Vaseline a trip to Paris with £500 of spending money to go with it.

My chances of winning are very slim for mainly 2 reasons: 1) I am a French native speaker and although I spent all my life in Mauritius, I doubt the folks at Vaseline are going to choose me 2) My entry is a little bit predictable to say the least. But if you don't try, you'll never win, non?

Without further delving into my pessimistic introduction, this is my entry to Lipglossiping's 'Beautiful Paris' Competition sponsored by Vaseline. If you haven't already guessed by the title of this post, my inspiration is 'Le Moulin Rouge' cabaret, one of the most iconic night time establishments of the French capital, spiritual birth place of the Can Can dance.

There are many things I would have liked to tweak to this makeup look to try make it more interesting: more dimension to the faux-head gear lace pattern, more feathers, more drama all around basically but I quite like the way the eyes have turned out and I could see myself wearing this look in real life. The lace pattern is surprisingly quite long lasting and the only change would be to use ben nye liquiset to activate the red mehron face paint that I used for the red eyeliner. I had also planned to wear more extravagant lashes for this look but they didn't arrive in time. Boo Crying face

Other things I have used: stargazer red eyeshadow (ebay)
Red lips the fabulous 'All for Eve' red lipstick Red lips
estee lauder double wear maximum foundation
hd brows palette in 'foxy' for eyeshadow and eyebrows
mac vanilla eyeshadow

Clic, Cloc and win :)

Do you what I also enjoy besides blogging? I enjoy graphic design, and fonts. Long before my love for make up, I have had a passion for fonts, and playing around with my paint shop pro, creating things just for fun. Long before Facebook, I had my own website and enjoyed spending time on it. So when I was invited to take part in a graphic design challenge, I thought it was too fun to refuse and I just had to take part.

I was approached to see if I wanted to create a design for a clicloc watch, those fun watches which have a very quirky to attach themselves to your wrist, with a clic cloc sound. Caroline from sparklyvodka has reviewed it on her blog. The box it arrives in is too cute for words.

001-clicloc-watch

002-clicloc-watch

003-clicloc-watch

A few other bloggers also took part. Our designs have been showcased on a Facebook page, and opened for votes. The person whose design gets the most votes, gets the chance to work with the clicloc and share ideas on a real design, if I read it right, that is. How fab is that!

What's in it for you?
10 voters are chosen at random and will win the clicloc watch of their choice. No question to answer, just cast your vote for the design you like the best and you will be entered in the draw to win a clicloc watch. I hope you like mine Fingers crossed

Click here if you want to take part :)

BFF Contest (YouTube makeup contest) WINNERS

.
This is. The moment has come, the wait is over and it’s now time to announce the winners of the BFF contest.

a1

For those of you who are new to following my blog, nearly a month ago, ended a makeup contest I organised on YouTube. The theme was BFF. BFF not as in best friend for ever, but Bird, Fruit, Flower where the idea was to create a makeup look either based from a bird, a fruit, and/or a flower. (you can see my blog post about it here). This was my second makeup contest on YouTube, and there is no way I expected such an amazing  turn out. Contest video reached more than 6000 views (which my absolute record ever) and I received no less than 167 entries for it.

I’ve said it before and I’d like to say it again. There’s nothing like the feeling of having someone creating a makeup look for you, making a video of it and publishing it on YouTube. You feel ever so special. Having entered many makeup contests myself before, I know from first hand experience how much work they involve: the inspiration and creation process as any makeup look would take but the courage to post it on YouTube with fierce competition and critique.

Now for the not so good part of makeup contests. This year, I had the help of my two BFF’s to help me with the judging but it was still a heart wrenching process to have to choose the winners. I hate it, I hate it, I hate it.

So without further ado and sincere apologies for the delay, below find the long awaited video of winners of the BFF contest. Contest Winners Video is posted here on YouTube and in much better resolution, but I’ll spare you the adverts:

Meet my BFF’s :)

I am not going to lie, this video took me a bit of time to do, shall we say, but it was the least I could do to show tribute to everyone. Any makeup looks which caught your attention? Let me know in the comments below xx

Alliglittor Eyes – Green Glitter Party Eyes

When my twitter friend Thomcat decided to do a makeup contest based on the theme of ‘glitter’, I hesitated about a nano second. I just had to enter. I love glitter Nothing screams more party and fun to me, than glitter in a makeup look or hairdo. I have so many glitter eye products in my makeup collection it’s ridiculous. Ironically it’s the very glitter liner I didn't own from my little stash of the collection 2000 glitter liners that I wanted to use: the glittery black one.

 009

010

For this look, I mainly used 2 colours from the Sleek Makeup Acid Palette: The Green over a black base (sleek ink pot gel liner in ‘dominatrix’ black ) and the purple on the lower lashline. The piece de resistance was my little pot of  loose glitter (from eBay – I used the purple lid one) which I applied over my splash proof sealer.

Image22

The rest is boring and I used my traditional white eyeliner pen from Revlon for the waterline, and the nyx trio palette in white/grey/black for deepening the crease and for highlighting. Lips was a mixture of MAC Hello Kitty ‘Fashion Mews’ and sleekmakeup amethyst.

011

Do you like glitter? You got some crazy glitter you never have the chance to use?
Join me and enter thom_cat’s contest on youtube. It ends on 1st July.

Queen for a Day

Funny, really! For a film which really didn't impress me, here I am creating a second makeup look  inspired by Tim Burton's adaptation of Alice in Wonderland. Reluctantly, I've got to admit now that I am glad I went to see the movie: The music was so beautiful, it gave me goosebumps right from the start and the costumes were breathtaking.
So I chose the Queen of Hearts dress (Red Queen's) as the inspiration for this look and entry to the YouTube Alice in Wonderland Makeup Contest.

 012

My favourite bit in the look is 'Fierce' a coppery gold eyeliner from Collection 2000, Glam Metallics which Nooberella raved about. I could not believe the coverage and brightness this inexpensive eyeliner offered. When I first tried it on my hand, I was disappointed with the brush but I was so pleased with the pigmentation I just had to buy it. Being used to my Revlon Colorstay eyeliner, this was very fiddly but definitely worth the effort.
Nooberella reviewed and swatched her little collection of Glam Metallics here if you are interested to know more.

Anyway, here's the look. I have some nice lashes with red rhinestones on top but you can't see them very well on the photos. It’s actually 2 pair of lashes, my normal favourite ones (Eylure Naturalites Glamour 101) and some rhinestones ones I bought on eBay especially for the occasion.

020 024

While I was working on the video last night, I was told the contest was extended for a further 2 weeks. So this give me time to had a little play with paintshoppro and give myself a crown for the day ^_^ I tried to create a paper gold crown by the way, but it was a major fail, and looked more kindergarden than anything, lol.

Alice in LambriniLand

Avant-Propos: Glossary of Essential Terms

Makeup Contest:
Excuse to have fun with makeup and green light to make a fool of oneself on YouTube
Mad Hatter: Annoying Character in Alice in Wonderland, remixed by Tim Burton. Trying to understand his nonsense will drive you mad
Lambrini: Cheap wine you get at the Spar just to get cash back.

2793138216_a6d69b0eca

So there I was, on Easter Bank Holiday finally setting to do my entry to the fabulous and most talked about make up contest on YouTube Land: The Alice in Wonderland Contest hosted by the most talented makeup gurus out there at the moment: GoldieStarling, Letzmakeup, Glitterdollz7 and last but not least, the beyond gorgeous HollywoodNoirMakeup.
Tim Burton's film left me really unimpressed (see my full review here) and the character of the Mad Hatter annoyed me till no end. On a makeup point of view, I was shocked to see the contrast between the pretty bright promotional posters and the doom and gloom 'reality' of Wonderland.

009

While Avatar had left me totally amazed, (this was the last movie I saw) Alice in Wonderland left me in a bad mood, honest! So I wanted to channel this negative energy into makeup. My idea was to create a brighter, more feminine and sexy look inspired by the colors of the Mad Hatter. No gloomy and lame tea party in sight, I had envisaged this look to be bright, fun, wearable at some fancy cocktail party!

So to get in the party mood, being Easter week end and that, I thought I would treat myself to a glass of lambrini. Before you knew it, half of the bottle had done and I had become tipsy midway through and was asking for tips on twitter how to sober up. Will spare you the fastidious details of the adventures of descent into LambriniLand. Have a look at the (not so happy) ending instead. If you behave, I might post an orange ‘blooper’ picture at the end of this post.

 020

 025

More pictures and fancy music in my video if you’re not perturbed yet. So, so so, where are the jungle frizzy orange eyebrows? Oh I tried, you bet I tried but it looked so spaced out and I really wanted to keep this look as much wearable as possible.  Because you’ve been nice reading all this, I thought I’d show you as well my attempt at orange eyebrows.
