Bonsoir Kitty – Evening 'Spurkle' Cut Crease Party Look

YouTube Makeup Guru Carly aka Glitterdollz7 is doing a makeup contest at the moment. The mission is to recreate one of her makeup  looks. This is my favourite kind of contests: we do after all watch makeup tutorials in the hope of recreating them, right? It was  hard to choose what to do. For ages, I wanted to recreate her Barbie loves Mac look. I was also toying with the idea to recreate her  interpretation of Nina Flowers Drag Look since my eyebrows are very much ready for this kind of look at the moment.

Image23

But I eventually  settled for her 'H&M Cut Crease Spurkle’ Look (sparkle and purple). This was such such such such a pleasure to do: I love glitter so  much I could have it for Breakfast. My favourite kind of makeup is drag-gy exaggerated elevated cut crease look at it helps to lift  my droopy lids and and and I've got this one shoulder dress I am thinking of maybe wear for new year's eve and I really wanted to  try my hands at a sparkly and festive purple look.

Image18

Image46

In reality, the glitter is much much more vibrant and it was hard to capture with  the camera but I hope you'll still be able to see it.

Image47

Carly used mainly the purse friendly H&M Hello Kitty Palette to create her look. I didn't have this so I used the following  ingredients:
- purple from Sleek Acid Makeup Palette
- black from Sleek Acid Makeup Palette
- darkest purple from eBay 120 palette
- Mac Blanc Type Eyeshadow
- Fashion Lashes (101 I think?) from Ardell (Ugh, can't stand invisiband lashes, hate them!!) & Eylure Glue
- White eyeshadow from Nyx Trio
- Splash Proof Sealer to stick the glitter on
- Glitter: mixture of mac 3D silver (just a liiiiiiitle bit) and main one used was White Fairy Dust (white and green glitter) from eBay (the one with the  white lid below)

Image24

They have also other colours if you want to see on my twitpic here. I love loose glitter. Next I want to buy  bright royal blue mixed with peacock blue glitter.

If you are interested, you can see more photos of my look on my video here.
I’ve made a little montage of some bloopers for you below. Excuse the yellow lighting, it’s the best I can do with my silly camera:

Festive Manicures featuring… YOU! :)

Lazy blog post from me? Maybe. But you can look at it from a different point of view: I wanted to share with you my favourite manicures from my blogger dashboard for the past 2 or 3 days and make the most of this opportunity to give a little shout out to some bloggers you might have not heard of. It seems a bit ridiculous for someone like me to do some shouts out when I am a small blogger myself and gained the support of just over 250 readers but never mind, every little helps, right? I could have also tweeted about these blog posts, but twitter is very much an instant communication tool and in the real world you can only access the followers who are on twitter, at the very minute you are tweeting.

I have a massive crush over this Turkish girl (Emerald Sparkled) and her manicures and photography are just to die for. For the past 2 days, she has brightened up my blogger reader and offered us 2 amazing posts. First one is very christmassy featuring China Glaze Mrs. Claus. I don't own any china glaze nail polish. I find the bottle ugly but I need to get over that cos I am missing out on a lot. Incidentally, I had my hair cut 2 days ago. The girl from reception was wearing a very snazzy glittery red nail polish. I said 'ooo is that china glaze ruby pumps'. She went 'Oh yes, it is actually'. I had a very proud moment ^_^ She was happy too.

and this is very fun one, featuring Alix Avien Nail Deco polishes, which crackle when layered on top of another polish. A bit like Barry M paint effects, which got the British beauty blogging community buzzing. My favourite from the lot is the blue crackle combination with Orly Mint Mojito. Yum, this is so gorgeous and so neat, I could eat it lol. Find Emerald Sparkled post here

We carry on with Jenni, from NailPolishUK, featuring the gorgeousness of Models Own Green Flash. (you can also click on the photo be redirected to the blog). She did such a good job at capturing the glitter, I am in total awe and need to add this shade to my ever expanding nail polish wishlist.

Still in the party spirit, feast your eyes over AVON 'decadence' nails from Sophie (melovemakeup). I would want to wear this shade anytime and not just for Christmas. It's so gorgeous!

Last but not least, I would like to show you this delicate frosty nails manicure from Alice (Super Gorgeous blog), featuring Ciaté Refresher I am not sure it would suit me, but it looks so nice on her. I love it! What did Alice use to create the glittery frost? Well, you’ll just have to click here to find out :)

I hope you like these manicures. If you have blogged yourself about a festive manicure or seen one around that you would like to share, please feel free to leave me some links. Spam me with festivity lol. Merci beaucoup xx

Tsuna’vi for Halloween

Being absolutely obsessed with Avatar the movie, how could I not resist not transforming myself into a navi for Halloween.
I just had to be an avatar this year, it just made sense.

avatar291

Trying to work out how to make my whole body blue was another story. For the past month, I had been toying with this idea and many times I have asked myself if I was really going to go ahead with this whole na’vi malarkey. We’re talking having the whole body blue here. When I use facepaint and spend time applying it, the result gets awfully streaky at best of times, let alone all over the whole body. I remember my first attempts at facepaint when I did this tribal makeup, whereby the whole bathroom was smeared with brown, it was not a pretty sight.

To say that this character was challenging was an understatement. I love halloween to bits, it’s my favourite day of the year, and I really wanted to go out, have fun and not to have to worry about facepaint smudging, fading, going streaky etc. The practicality of it is a nightmare: so you just go out like this, with facepaint on, at 9 degrees in winter, with no coat. How do you put facepaint on your armpits anyway? Do you put deodorant before the paint or after? And you need to carry a handbag right? How does this come into the equation? ‘Avalook (get it?) at this pretty girl. Her make up *is* stunning but can you really wear this out? It’s going already streaky around the waist, and the girl is wearing hardly anything!!! Plus, how can you pull wearing this look? Who is going to take you home with all this blue gunk on you lol?

avatar-navi-girl12731225584848

So I looked into the option of buying a catsuit from eBay, all the way from China as I was desperate. I bought one in the end as I was getting desperate but the catsuit never arrived and I had to think quick on my feet. To be fair, I am quite glad it didn’t arrive. I would have ended up like a shiny smurf and being from China and all, the sizing would have been ridiculously small and I would have never fitted it.

I was really close to give it up. Objective no.1 was wearability and a party proof look. In the end I opted for a fake masquerade mask, a blue ‘top’ (or handkerchief if you prefer to call it that way) and a brown skirt from eBay. The skirt didn’t fit at all and I had to destroy it a bit to wear it.  More details on the makeup itself (and whether it was truly wearable and party proof) in another post. For now I leave you with some photos. Skimpy? Yeah, outrageously skimpy and not something I could wear when I am 70. I didnt want to look back on my life at 70 and go ‘do you know, if I had the guts I could have been an avatar that year?

More Halloween shenanigans (and a rather yummy Jack Sparrow, some dance moves and all my mates) in my youtube video here. So did you dress up for Halloween? I’d love to see what you’ve been to. Spam me away with your youtube video and blog posts links :)

Alliglittor Eyes – Green Glitter Party Eyes

When my twitter friend Thomcat decided to do a makeup contest based on the theme of ‘glitter’, I hesitated about a nano second. I just had to enter. I love glitter Nothing screams more party and fun to me, than glitter in a makeup look or hairdo. I have so many glitter eye products in my makeup collection it’s ridiculous. Ironically it’s the very glitter liner I didn't own from my little stash of the collection 2000 glitter liners that I wanted to use: the glittery black one.

 009

010

For this look, I mainly used 2 colours from the Sleek Makeup Acid Palette: The Green over a black base (sleek ink pot gel liner in ‘dominatrix’ black ) and the purple on the lower lashline. The piece de resistance was my little pot of  loose glitter (from eBay – I used the purple lid one) which I applied over my splash proof sealer.

Image22

The rest is boring and I used my traditional white eyeliner pen from Revlon for the waterline, and the nyx trio palette in white/grey/black for deepening the crease and for highlighting. Lips was a mixture of MAC Hello Kitty ‘Fashion Mews’ and sleekmakeup amethyst.

011

Do you like glitter? You got some crazy glitter you never have the chance to use?
Join me and enter thom_cat’s contest on youtube. It ends on 1st July.

Little bird goes clubbing

Yes, this is another contest entry. It’s for youtube Sara from SWalkermakeup. The mission was to create a party look, so you bet I just had to take part? Don’t you love makeup contests? I love them: not only it gives me excuse to play with makeup, it challenges me to create something new. And boy this was a challenge. I wanted to wear those lashes I bought in sale from Boots aaages ago.

SAM_1512

To wear them, I had to trim 2 thirds off them, then to thin them a little, and then double them up with my beloved drama lashes from Claire’s accessories. This is the final look. I hope you like it :)
